Darwin and Squiggles: Monochrome Pixelation and Analogous Curves

Projects for my design class--both 12"x12" acrylic on illustration board

Darwin is done in a monochrome color scheme: magenta + black and white

The squiggles are done with an analogous color scheme: purplish blues to purplish magentas + black and white

Assignment: do a 1 hour drawing from a funny Victorian word. I got "Duffer". Didn't know what it meant, but i made a coal-powered street sweeper guy.

Apparently duffer means "an incompetent, ineffectual, or clumsy person; especially : a mediocre golfer"

Should've done Duffman...

First painting in class from a model--supposed to do the 'wipe off' method of a wash of burnt umber---gets you thinking about composition in two tones (and gets you designing shapes. Dang, she's got a long neck.

Second class, painting from a model--this time it's 5 tones (plus pure white and pure burnt umber). Really, supposed only to use two main tones, with the two extremes for accents and then pure white/dark sparingly. And avoid the mid-tones! a chronic problem...
